This lesson uses Google Earth and the book The Armadillo from Amarillo to teach students about location and the ways one might describe his or her location.

The Armadillo from Amarillo by Lynne Cherry

This Story is about an Armadillo named Sasparillo who wants to know where he is on earth. Sasparillo travels through Texas to figure this out. Eventually he meets an eagle who flies him higher and higher so he sees where his home is in relation to other places.

  • Students will understand concepts such as: location, direction, distance, and scale.
  • The students will use and create maps and globes to locate people places and things.
