Franklin and Marshall College of Lancaster Pennsylvania recently published the 8th edition of a report in which they track the baccalaureate origins of PhDs. The CSB/SJU Chemistry Department ranks high in the list of predominantly undergraduate institutions (PUIs).
During the period from 1920 to 1995, 108 CSB/SJU chemistry graduates earned the PhD degree. This gave the department a rank of 37th nationally and third in Minnesota, behind St. Olaf (236) and Carlton (224).
During the most recent ten year period for which data is available (1986-1995), 32 department grads got PhDs. This gave the department a ranking of 16th in the nation and third in the state, again behind Carlton (88) and St. Olaf (54).
